Labor Market Information
Sound career decisions are based on up-to-date information. Current labor market publications and resources are available to help job seekers make informed career choices. Career counseling and assistance on using labor market information is provided in the Resource Room at each Suncoast Workforce office.
Occupational Career Posters – Check out the colorful posters in the Resource Room. These posters provide information about jobs in specific industries along with their education requirement and salary. This information helps you understand the connection between education and wages.
Wage Conversion – The Wage Conversion poster provides a simple matrix on hourly wages converted into annual wages. By using the Wage Conversion poster, job seekers can quickly compute their potential earnings as they job search.
Jobs On-Line Posters – These posters provide a “One-Stop” source of websites that assist individuals providing labor market information and job/career sites.
What Jobs in Florida Pay (Occupational Wage Survey publications) – This publication provides wages for specific occupations; both locally and statewide. Job seekers are able to see what the current and projected wages are when conducting job search and making career decisions.
What are Tomorrow’s Hot Jobs (Industry and Occupational Projections publications) – Industry and Occupational projections can be found through 2008 for each area within the state as well as statewide. Job seekers can see the potential growth or decline of specific occupations; valuable information when job searching and/or considering training.
A Career Information Delivery System (CIDS) like CHOICES – Products like CHOICES provide a more holistic approach to career decision making by guiding the individual through modules designed to provide a more realistic job search and career strategy; customized to each individual.
Florida’s Research and Economic Database (FRED) – This interactive database provides an on-line system containing much of the data used by job seekers and employers. The new component, “FRED Job Seeker”, will provide on-line videos of specific careers so that job seekers can become familiar with the requirements and traits of specific occupations.
America’s Career Kit (featuring America's Job Bank and America's Service Locator) – These on-line systems parallel many of Florida's systems but provide a link to national data and other resources. They include information on jobs, resume posting, training providers, a directory of local providers and more.
Occupational Network (O*NET) - O*NET allows individuals to determine which skills are necessary for particular jobs. They can then use this information to identify skills gaps or potential areas for skills training/upgrade. Job seekers can also see what other occupations use the skills they currently have for consideration during career decision-making.
"Consumer Reports" - Information, which provides job seekers with enough information regarding training providers’ performance, including: placement rates, wages at placement, retention, and other information to be taken into consideration when choosing a training provider. The Florida Training and Education Network is the “consumer reports” system used by Florida’s workforce community.
